Choi Yena reveals childhood battle with cancer

Singer Choi Yena revealed during an episode of the MBC variety show ‘Omniscient Interfering View’ that she battled childhood cancer when she was four or five years old. She shared that her condition was so severe that medical professionals expressed little hope for her recovery.

Yena recounted how her parents sought various ways to save her, including taking her photograph to a shaman. She recalled the shaman reportedly dismissing the photo by asking why they would bring a picture of a ‘dead child.’

The singer also discussed a second health crisis during elementary school involving a leg injury that doctors suggested might prevent her from walking again. She credited her mother’s persistence in encouraging her to move in a public pool for helping her regain her mobility within a month. Yena expressed deep gratitude to her parents, stating she felt driven to succeed to repay their devotion.
