Chomutov opposition group PRO Chomutov changes name after alleged registration fraud

The local opposition movement PRO Chomutov, active for 16 years, discovered that a third party had registered a group with the same name at the Czech Ministry of the Interior ahead of the October 2024 municipal elections. The registration, filed on 20 July 2026, required three people and a thousand signatures.

To avoid possible disqualification, the original movement altered its ballot name to "JsmePRO! Chomutov". Leader and councilor Jan Rödling described the act as a deliberate attempt to damage the party, calling it "mafia practices from the 1990s". The coalition will run under the new name together with TOP 09, KDU‑ČSL, the Pirates and the Greens. The incident follows previous local political turbulence, including the 2022 victory of ANO and subsequent scandals.
