Chong Kun Dang to invest 2.2 trillion KRW in Siheung bio R&D center

Chong Kun Dang is set to invest 2.2 trillion KRW to establish a large-scale bio and pharmaceutical knowledge industry center in the Baegot district of Siheung, Gyeonggi Province. The Gyeonggi Free Economic Zone Authority recently granted conditional approval for the project through an integrated architectural and transportation review process, which is expected to accelerate the development timeline.

The facility will span a site area of approximately 79,790 square meters with a total floor area of 75,000 square meters. It is designed to house companies specializing in the manufacturing of basic medicinal substances, biopharmaceuticals, and medical or pharmaceutical research and development.

The center will incorporate eco-friendly technologies, including renewable energy generation, greenhouse gas reduction devices, and waste/wastewater recycling systems, aiming for a 20% energy self-sufficiency rate. Additionally, the design will utilize universal design guidelines to ensure accessibility and safety for all users. The facility is scheduled to begin full operations in the second half of 2028.
