Chongqing floods kill 9, leave 11 missing

Heavy rain over the weekend caused flash floods and landslides in Yongchuan district of Chongqing, southwestern China, killing nine people and leaving eleven still missing. The sudden deluge forced the overflow of rivers and swept villages and residential areas, prompting large‑scale evacuations.

More than 2,000 residents from over a thousand households have been moved to temporary shelters, with 42 resettlement centres set up to accommodate around 9,000 people. Rescue teams deployed nearly 2,000 workers, using remote‑controlled excavators, 3D laser scanners, drones, and slope‑radar systems to locate survivors and monitor ground stability. Emergency crews continue to clear debris and search for the missing amid ongoing heavy rainfall.
