Chongqing implements expressway restrictions and safety inspections
Chongqing traffic authorities have announced upcoming traffic restrictions and safety enforcement measures to ensure transportation security during peak travel seasons and infrastructure projects.
On the G42 Shanghai-Chengdu Expressway, specifically the section from Liangping to Wushan, safety resilience enhancement construction will trigger traffic controls. Starting September 2, 2026, overweight vehicles—defined as those exceeding 4.2 meters in height, 2.55 meters in width, or 18.1 meters in length—and vehicles carrying hazardous chemicals will face restrictions. The construction is scheduled in three phases spanning from September 2026 through September 2027. Drivers traveling between Hubei and Chongqing are advised to use the G50 Shanghai-Chongqing Expressway as an alternative.
In conjunction with these projects, the Chongqing Traffic Law Enforcement General Team is conducting a specialized safety campaign. This initiative includes inspections of rail transit stations, tunnels, and highway bridges to identify geological hazards such as soil loosening or rockfalls. Enforcement efforts are also targeting high-risk vehicle categories, including passenger buses and hazardous material carriers, to crack down on illegal operations and unauthorized modifications. Authorities are urging the public to report any road or construction hazards via official government hotlines.
