Falun Gong practitioners face arrests and imprisonment across China

Multiple reports detail the ongoing legal and physical persecution of Falun Gong practitioners across various regions in China.

In Shaanxi, 74-year-old Cao Ping reportedly died in Shaanxi Women's Prison in April 2026 after serving an eight-year sentence. Her family has raised questions regarding the circumstances of her death.

In Guangzhou, authorities launched the ‘F1212 Project,’ a specialized operation targeting elderly practitioners. In April 2026, fifteen practitioners over the age of 60 were arrested in a coordinated raid. Twelve of these individuals have since been transferred to the Liwan District Procuratorate on charges including ‘disrupting the implementation of law’ for activities such as sharing information and communicating with other practitioners.

Other reported cases include Zou Hualan in Chongqing, who was sentenced to two years and three months in August 2026 following allegations of using fabricated evidence. Additionally, in Jinan, 84-year-old Tian Shulin was sentenced to eighteen months in prison and fined 5,000 yuan, with his family being restricted from visiting him in the Shandong Provincial Prison.
