Chonta Mullins detained at Costa Rican airport

Chonta Mullins Abegglen, a former Miss Universe Costa Rica participant, was detained by Interpol and Judicial Investigation Organization (OIJ) agents upon her arrival at Juan Santamaría International Airport on Friday. Mullins arrived from Zurich, Switzerland, on an Edelweiss flight.

Mullins is a suspect in the Riverside case, which involves alleged money laundering linked to a criminal organization associated with Edwin López Vega, known as “Pecho de Rata”. She had been sought by authorities since June 24, following raids related to the investigation.

Mullins' attorney, Gregorio Briglia, stated that her return was intended to be voluntary and had been delayed due to matters regarding her daughter's education in Switzerland. Following her detention, she was transported to the Limón Courts, where the prosecution is expected to conduct an inquiry. A judicial authority will determine the specific office responsible for her precautionary measures hearing.
