Chorrillos bus attack leaves driver wounded
An armed individual attacked a San Genaro transport bus in the Chorrillos district of Lima, leaving the driver wounded. The incident occurred on a Friday afternoon when the vehicle slowed down to allow a company controller to board. The assailant fired directly at the driver through the open door before firing more than five additional shots into the windows and seats.
The bus was not carrying passengers at the time of the attack. The driver was transported to a nearby medical center with a reserved prognosis. Authorities, including the National Police of Peru and criminal investigators, secured the scene to collect evidence. Surveillance footage of the attack and the suspect's escape route has been handed over to investigators.
Local authorities suspect the attack may be related to extortion or 'cupos' (protection money) demands. This follows a similar incident in August involving a different transport company in the same district.
