Chorus reports revenue and profit growth driven by fibre uptake

Telecommunications provider Chorus reported growth in operating revenue, EBITDA, and net profit for the financial year ending June 30, 2026. Driven by high fibre uptake and cost control measures, operating revenue rose to $1.03 billion, a $15 million increase over the previous year. Net profit after tax saw a significant rise to $37 million, up from $4 million in FY25.

Fibre connections grew by 32,000 to reach a total of 1,147,000, accounting for 96 per cent of the company’s total network connections. Fibre uptake currently stands at 75.9 per cent of available addresses, moving toward a target of 80 per cent by 2030. Chief Executive Mark Aue noted that rising artificial intelligence workloads and data centre expansion are expected to drive future digital connectivity demand.

As part of its transition to an all-fibre model, Chorus has moved its nationwide copper network retirement deadline forward to 2028. The company is also evaluating a potential new inter-island subsea cable and conducting battery energy storage system trials.
