Chou Tien-chen reaches Asian Games badminton quarterfinals

Taiwanese badminton star Chou Tien-chen has advanced to the men's singles quarterfinals at the Nagoya Asian Games after competing in two matches on a single day.

In his opening match, Chou secured a quick victory against Bangladesh's Ayman Ibn Jaman, winning 21-1, 21-10 in just 27 minutes. Chou noted that his strategy was to finish the match rapidly to conserve energy for his afternoon fixture, a rare scheduling challenge he noted has not occurred in major international tournaments for over a decade.

In the round of 16, Chou faced India's Ayush Shetty, ranked 20th in the world. After winning the first game 21-16, Chou dropped the second game 19-21. In the deciding third game, Chou overcame an 8-11 halftime deficit, utilizing a decisive 9-1 scoring run to secure a 21-17 victory. Following the match, Chou praised the resilience of his Bangladeshi opponent for pursuing badminton despite limited resources in his home country.
