Choudwar Jail Superintendent arrested for record manipulation

Sujit Kumar Roul, the Senior Superintendent of Choudwar Circle Jail in Odisha, has been arrested for allegedly manipulating prison records following a jailbreak in October 2025. The incident involved the escape of two inmates, Raja Sahani and Madhukant Kumar, during Dussehra celebrations.

Investigations revealed that Roul allegedly falsified entry and exit registers to show he was on duty when CCTV footage indicated otherwise. It is further alleged that he forged the signature of former jailer Santosini Das on a handover document. Roul had previously claimed the prison’s minute book was missing and sought anticipatory bail to avoid arrest.

Following the arrest, Santosini Das filed a new complaint alleging that Roul has been using departmental and external contacts to intimidate and pressure her into withdrawing the case against him. Das claimed she was offered favorable departmental proceedings and reinstatement in exchange for dropping the charges, expressing concern that such coercion could compromise the integrity of the criminal investigation.
