CHP Karabük Deputy Chairman Mustafa Erten Found Dead After Falling into Filyos River

Seventy‑two‑year‑old CHP Karabük İl Başkan Yardımcısı Mustafa Erten slipped from a height of about 10‑20 metres while taking a toilet break and fell into the Filyos River near Yeşilköy. The strong current carried him downstream and he vanished from view.

Search and rescue teams—including health services, gendarmerie, AFAD, UMKE, fire units, divers, drones and thermal‑camera equipment—were deployed. Over 60 personnel, 18 vehicles, two boats and two drones worked through the night and into the next morning. After roughly 11 hours, Erten’s body was recovered at the hydroelectric dam barrier about 1.7 km downstream.

Karabük Governor Oktay Çağatay, the regional gendarmerie commander and local officials visited the site and offered condolences. CHP regional leaders and the AKP mayor also expressed sympathy. An investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
