CHP leader Özgür Özel visits family of missing student Gülistan Doku in Diyarbakır

CHP chairman Özgür Özel traveled to Diyarbakır with party officials, including MP Sezgin Tanrıkulu and women’s wing chief Asu Kaya, to meet the family of university student Gülistan Doku, who vanished in Tunceli in January 2020. He told the Doku family that the party has been monitoring the investigation from the start and praised the Tunceli Chief Public Prosecutor’s office for arresting suspects. Özel urged that all evidence, including the role of police officers alleged to have obscured facts, be fully examined and emphasized the party’s continued support for the family until the student’s remains are located.

In remarks that linked the case to broader democratic concerns, Özel said the issue was not an internal CHP matter but a struggle between autocratic and democratic forces, underscoring the importance of election law and civic participation in safeguarding democracy.
