CHP members debate lifting parliamentary immunity

Internal divisions have emerged within the Republican People's Party (CHP) regarding the issue of parliamentary immunity. While some party leadership members argue that immunity should not be lifted, a significant faction within the CHP suggests that immunity should be limited to protecting speech on the assembly floor rather than providing broad legal privilege.

There is a reported tendency among many CHP deputies to vote for the removal of immunity if investigations against party leaders, including Özgür Özel, are brought to the General Assembly. The number of legal files submitted regarding Özgür Özel has reportedly risen to 62. Proponents of lifting immunity argue that being a deputy should not grant freedom to commit crimes and that all individuals must be held accountable.
