CHP moves to investigate Turkish investment fund crisis
Members of the Republican People's Party (CHP) have submitted research motions and parliamentary questions to the Turkish Grand National Assembly regarding a crisis in investment funds. The motions allege that what was initially described as a one-day liquidity issue has evolved into a payment crisis spanning approximately ten months.
The CHP claims that the Capital Markets Board (SPK) and Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek were aware of manipulative transactions involving certain funds as early as the last quarter of 2025. Lawmakers argue that the failure to take timely regulatory action allowed for unfair gains and increased the victimization of small investors.
Parliamentary inquiries are seeking to determine the total risk amount, identify responsible individuals and institutions, and investigate why oversight mechanisms failed to prevent the issue. Additionally, questions have been raised regarding the extension of the liquidation period from three to six months and how investor losses will be compensated.
