CHP officials criticize Turkish economic policy and capital market oversight
Republican People's Party (CHP) officials have raised several domestic concerns regarding Turkey's economy and political landscape. CHP Deputy Chairman Müslüm Sarı, speaking in Adana, criticized Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek, calling for his resignation due to recent developments in the fund markets. Sarı also addressed the timing of judicial operations against CHP municipalities and expressed a need for greater political responsibility in candidate selection processes.
In a separate briefing, CHP Deputy Chairman and Bursa Deputy Orhan Sarıbal addressed the financial crisis in the capital markets, describing certain fund activities as “robbery via the fund method.” Sarıbal called for the dismissal of oversight bureaucrats, including those at the Capital Markets Board, and demanded the disclosure of identities and transaction details for large-scale investors involved in recent market volatility. He urged that the matter be investigated as organized crime.
Sarıbal also highlighted the economic distress of the agricultural sector, noting that farmers' bank debts have exceeded 1.5 trillion TL. He emphasized that while agricultural production continues, rising costs are forcing producers into significant debt without a corresponding increase in income.
