CHP officials in Izmir demand action against femicides

Republican People's Party (CHP) Izmir Provincial Chairman Utku Gümrükçü and Provincial Women's Branch President Nilay Kökkılınç held a press conference to address the rise in violence against women. They highlighted that three women were murdered in Izmir within a single ten-day period.

Gümrükçü criticized the current administration's inability to solve long-standing national issues and called for the reinstatement of the Istanbul Convention. He emphasized that gender equality is a fundamental pillar of democracy and argued that the issue of violence against women should be a primary agenda item for the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, rather than being relegated to reality television programs.

Kökkılınç proposed various measures to prevent violence, including stricter regulations on firearm access, improved educational policies, and enhanced legal protections for women. The officials called upon ministries and regulatory bodies to implement more effective deterrents and preventative measures to combat the systemic nature of these crimes.
