Turkey political and economic developments: fund scandal and local governance

Turkish political figures and leaders are addressing several significant domestic issues, including a major investment fund scandal and regional economic challenges. Nihat Zeybekci, AK Party Vice Chairman, has alleged that approximately six public institutions were negligent or involved in malpractice regarding the fund crisis, which has impacted hundreds of thousands of investors in capital markets.

In Denizli, Zafer Party leader Ümit Özdağ reported that 45 large textile factories have closed, attributing the decline to government economic policies. He also highlighted struggles in the agricultural sector, noting that high-quality local products like olive oil and grapes are being sold cheaply to foreign entities due to a lack of branding and processing infrastructure.

On the local governance front, Ahmet Coşkun of İspir has introduced the ‘İspir Model,’ a vision based on production, transparency, and participation. Meanwhile, in Kayseri, the ‘Tık Yemek’ platform has been introduced to support local tradesmen by charging a 3 percent entry fee, a significant reduction from the 15 to 45 percent commissions typically charged by existing delivery platforms.
