Chris Bowen visits India and Saudi Arabia to discuss energy security

Australian Energy Minister Chris Bowen is traveling to India and Saudi Arabia to address global energy security and strengthen partnerships ahead of COP31. Bowen stated that Australia’s fuel supply remains secure, but emphasized the importance of international engagement due to disruptions in the Middle East.

In India, Bowen described the nation as an “indispensable voice” in shaping global climate and energy policy. His itinerary includes touring the Jamnagar oil refinery in Gujarat and participating in a pre-COP dialogue in New Delhi to discuss the intersection of economic growth, energy security, and climate action. He intends to advocate for renewables as a means to mitigate supply and price shocks.

In Saudi Arabia, Bowen will meet with Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud to discuss the impact of Middle Eastern energy disruptions, such as the closure of the East-West pipeline. He also plans to visit the Centre of Excellence for Renewable Energy and Storage Technologies at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology to highlight electrification as a priority for upcoming climate negotiations.
