Chris Brown Pleads Guilty to Affray over 2023 London Nightclub Attack
American singer Chris Brown entered a guilty plea to the charge of affray at Southwark Crown Court in London. The plea relates to a violent confrontation on 19 February 2023 at the private members’ club Tape in Mayfair, where prosecutors said Brown struck music producer Abraham (Abe) Diaw twice with a tequila bottle and then punched and kicked him. Brown’s vocal‑coach and co‑defendant, Omololu Akinlolu (known as Hoody Baby), entered the same plea. Prosecutors withdrew the more serious offences of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, attempted grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon. Brown was released on bail after posting a £5 million security fee and will be sentenced, together with Akinlolu, on 26 October. A senior Crown Prosecution Service prosecutor described the incident as “completely unacceptable” violence.
The case has attracted extensive media coverage because of Brown’s high profile, but the legal consequences are confined to the United Kingdom’s criminal justice system.
