Chris Brown Files Motion for New Trial on $13 Million Dog Bite Judgment

Grammy‑winning singer Chris Brown and his company Black Pyramid LLC have filed a motion asking a Los Angeles Superior Court judge to set aside a jury verdict that found them liable for a dog‑bite injury to former housekeeper Maria Avila. The jury in June awarded Avila roughly $12.9 million in damages after she was attacked by Brown’s 200‑pound Caucasian Shepherd, Hades, at his Tarzana, California home in December 2020. Brown’s filing claims the trial was marred by procedural errors, alleged jury misconduct and an excessive damages award, and seeks a new trial.

A hearing on the motion is scheduled for 22 September. If the judgment is upheld, the court could allow Avila to pursue portions of Brown’s current concert‑tour earnings to satisfy the award, potentially affecting the singer’s revenue stream while the legal battle continues.
