Chris Brown ordered to pay $12.9 million for dog attack on housekeeper

A U.S. court found singer Chris Brown and his security company Black Pyramid liable for a dog attack that injured former housekeeper Maria Avila at Brown’s Tarzana, California home in December 2020. The jury awarded Avila $12.9 million (about R$67.6 million) for severe facial, arm and other injuries, and granted additional damages to her husband ($50,000) and sister ($885,000). Brown argued the dog was a security animal, not a pet, and disputed the extent of the injuries, but the verdict held him responsible for negligence. The case, filed in 2021, concluded after more than five years of litigation.
