Chris Brown Seeks New Trial After $13 Million Dog Attack Verdict

A Los Angeles jury awarded former housekeeper Maria Avila nearly $13 million in damages after she was mauled by a 200‑pound Caucasian Shepherd at Chris Brown’s Tarzana home in December 2020. Brown and his company Black Pyramid LLC filed a notice on July 31 to request a new trial, arguing the verdict was excessive and citing alleged jury misconduct and procedural irregularities. A hearing on the motion is scheduled for September 22.

Avila has filed a separate motion asking the court to freeze assets tied to Brown’s current R&B Tour with Usher and to apply any tour proceeds, royalties, merchandise sales or sponsorship earnings toward the unpaid judgment. She says she has not received any of the awarded amount despite repeated attempts to contact Brown’s attorneys.
