Chris Eubank Jr. retracts corruption accusations against boxing officials
Boxer Chris Eubank Jr. has issued a formal apology and retraction regarding corruption accusations made against Robert Smith and the British Boxing Board of Control. The statements, originally made during a September 2025 press conference for his rematch with Conor Benn, alleged that Smith was influenced by Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn and that the Board used fines to enrich themselves.
Eubank Jr. stated, “I accept that these statements are untrue and without any foundation. I accept that neither Mr Smith nor the Board are corrupt and I retract my statements in full.” The matter has been resolved through a confidential settlement.
Separately, Eubank Jr. faces criticism from opponents regarding his career direction. Michael Zerafa has accused the boxer of prioritizing “money fights” over the sport and suggested that Eubank may be “pricing himself out” of potential matchups. While Eubank is expected to move to the 168lb weight class, negotiations for his next bout remain ongoing.
