Chris Hansen considers legal action over A24 film ‘Primetime’

Chris Hansen is considering legal action against A24 and the filmmakers of the upcoming movie ‘Primetime’, which stars Robert Pattinson as a dramatized version of Hansen. Hansen has expressed concerns that the film is “exploitive” and “sneaky,” specifically regarding the use of his real name and the identities of his colleagues and family in a fictionalized story.

Hansen claims he was not consulted during production and declined an invitation to a private screening after A24 reportedly asked him to sign an agreement regarding his name, image, and brand. While sources close to the film suggest this was a standard non-disclosure agreement for preview audiences, Hansen maintains the terms were overly restrictive.

In a preemptive move, Hansen has purchased advertising space to run before every theatrical screening of ‘Primetime’. The advertisements promote his independent true-crime streaming network, TruBlu. The film, directed by Lance Oppenheim, is inspired by Hansen’s tenure on NBC’s ‘To Catch a Predator’ and is scheduled for a theatrical release on September 25.
