Ben James takes 36-hole lead at World Wide Technology Championship

Ben James has moved into a one-shot lead heading into the weekend at the World Wide Technology Championship in Los Cabos, Mexico. After an opening round 63 led by Chris Kirk, James shot an 8-under 64 on Friday to reach 15-under 129 at the Tiger Woods-designed El Cardonal at Diamante.

James, who secured his PGA Tour card as the top player from the PGA Tour University ranking, has recorded 14 rounds of 65 or lower in his 13 tournaments since turning professional this summer. A victory this week could move him into the top 50 in the world and qualify him for the 2028 Championship Series.

Other notable performances include Peter Malnati, who also posted a second-round 64 to sit one shot behind James, and Zac Blair, who remains in contention at 12 under par. The tournament features a 120-man field, including several Mexican representatives such as Álvaro Ortiz, Alejandro Madariaga, and Jorge Villar.
