Chris Masters describes political backstage culture in former WWE era
Former WWE Superstar Chris Masters has described the backstage environment during his debut era as highly political and cutthroat. In an interview with Hannibal TV, Masters noted that many wrestlers from previous generations, specifically those from the ‘Golden Era’, were often willing to engage in backstabbing behavior to protect their positions on the roster.
Masters clarified that he did not view these veterans as inherently bad people, but rather suggested their behavior was a product of the ‘carny’ and competitive environment in which they were raised. He explained that his generation entered the company during a period of overlap where these old-school mentalities were still prevalent. While he believes backstage politics will always exist to some degree, Masters suggested that the intensity of such dynamics has decreased compared to his time in the company.
