New Hampshire Senate primaries: Pappas and Sununu advance

In the New Hampshire primary elections, Democratic Representative Chris Pappas and Republican former Senator John E. Sununu secured their respective nominations for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by retiring Democrat Jeanne Shaheen.

Pappas won the Democratic primary with approximately 65% of the vote, defeating challenger Karishma Manzur. Manzur, a democratic socialist, criticized Pappas regarding his relationship with AIPAC. The race is considered critical for Democrats, who need a net gain of four seats to retake control of the Senate.

Sununu secured the Republican nomination after defeating former Senator Scott Brown. The general election matchup between Pappas and Sununu is viewed as a key battleground in New England, with recent polling showing Sununu holding a narrow lead.

Other notable primary results include Kelly Ayotte winning the Republican gubernatorial nomination and Stefany Shaheen winning the Democratic primary for the 1st Congressional District seat, which Pappas currently holds.
