Chris Rock criticizes Los Angeles and industry focus on fame
Comedian Chris Rock has described his relationship with Los Angeles as “complicated,” noting a shift in the motivations of those entering the entertainment industry. In an interview with Variety, Rock observed that while people once sought to achieve greatness as actors or musicians, the modern focus has shifted toward seeking fame alone.
Rock highlighted the extreme socioeconomic disparities within the city, pointing to the “crazy dichotomy” of multi-million dollar real estate being advertised on streets where homeless individuals sleep.
These themes are central to his new film, “Misty Green,” which marks his first directorial effort since 2014. The film follows a struggling, award-winning actress attempting to navigate a comeback in Hollywood. “Misty Green” is scheduled to premiere in Toronto on September 12, followed by a theatrical release on October 9.
