Comedian Chris Rock has addressed the infamous 2022 Oscars incident involving Will Smith in a new interview with Variety. Reflecting on the moment Smith slapped him following a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith, Rock stated, “I wish nothing would have happened,” but noted that the event is “not that important” compared to broader global issues.

Rock clarified his stance on returning to the Academy Awards, stating he would only return if he were personally nominated for an award. He expressed that he does not intend to host the ceremony again, noting that his time as a host may have passed and praising current presenters.

The interview was conducted in conjunction with the promotion of his new film, “Misty Green,” which marks his first directorial project in 12 years. The film is set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
