Chris Rock's Misty Green premieres at TIFF

Chris Rock’s new film, Misty Green, has been presented at the Toronto International Film Festival. The Hollywood satire, which Rock wrote, directed, and stars in, follows a washed-up, Emmy-winning actress struggling to maintain her career and personal life while facing the loss of her Los Angeles apartment.

Rosalind Eleazar delivers the lead performance as the titular character. Rock noted that Eleazar’s audition, which focused on understanding the character’s inherent contradictions rather than acting as a career showcase, was instrumental in her casting. The film explores themes including ageism, sexism, racism in the film industry, mental health, and police profiling.

The ensemble cast includes Daniel Kaluuya, Adam Driver, Anna Kendrick, and Topher Grace. While reviews describe the film as an uneven satire, Eleazar’s performance has been highlighted as a significant strength of the production.
