Chris Slade announces retirement from drumming
Chris Slade, the veteran drummer known for his work with AC/DC and Tom Jones, has announced his retirement from professional music. The 79-year-old musician shared the news via a video on Facebook, citing health complications as the primary reason for his decision.
Slade revealed that a stroke he suffered approximately seven years ago, which was initially considered minor, has progressively worsened and impacted his ability to perform. He also noted a recent fall that resulted in rib injuries and hospitalization, further complicating his ability to maintain a touring schedule.
Throughout a career spanning over six decades, Slade held two significant tenures with AC/DC, notably performing on the 1990 album ‘The Razors Edge’. He expressed admiration for contemporaries like Paul McCartney and The Rolling Stones, who continue to perform into their eighties, noting his regret that his own health prevents him from doing the same.
