Chris Smalling joins FC Porto on a free transfer

FC Porto has officially signed English defender Chris Smalling on a free transfer. The 36-year-old center-back joins the Portuguese champions following two seasons with Al-Fayha in Saudi Arabia.

Smalling has signed a contract through the end of the 2026-2027 season, which includes an option for a one-year extension based on specific sporting objectives. The move provides veteran leadership and international experience to a defensive unit managed by Francesco Farioli, particularly as the club deals with injuries to players like Nehuen Pérez.

Smalling’s career includes significant stints at Manchester United, where he won multiple titles, and AS Roma. He has earned 31 caps for the England national team, representing his country in the 2014 World Cup and Euro 2016.
