Chris Tanev to be week-to-week with upper-body injury

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Chris Tanev is expected to be week-to-week following an upper-body injury. The team announced the status on Thursday after Tanev exited a recent game against the Colorado Avalanche in the first period following a collision with Artturi Lehkonen.

Tanev has been placed on injured reserve, retroactive to October 10. To address the roster vacancy, the Maple Leafs have recalled Marshall Rafai from their AHL affiliate, the Toronto Marlies.

The injury comes during a period of roster adjustment for Toronto, which recently traded defenseman Emil Andrae to the Columbus Blue Jackets to acquire forward Kirill Marchenko. Head coach Jim Hiller noted that while Tanev is a well-established player, the team will rely on its existing depth during his recovery.
