Christ Church Cathedral completes restoration of 4,000-pipe organ
Christ Church Cathedral in Victoria has completed an extensive restoration of its massive organ, an instrument featuring 4,000 pipes and 67 stops. Built in 2005, the organ has logged over 20,000 hours of use and serves as a primary teaching tool for the University of Victoria’s organ program and the Victoria Organ Studio.
The restoration project was conducted by Montreal-based organ builders Juget-Sinclair, who cleaned and regulated all pipes and restored the instrument's mechanical and electrical components. The work was funded through public donations.
To celebrate the completion, the cathedral has scheduled a series of concerts and events through October. Highlights include a performance by the Choir of Merton College, Oxford, on September 7, and a formal rededication during Evensong on October 4. The rededication service will feature the world premiere of a new work by British composer David Bednall.
