Christa Pike survives botched Tennessee execution attempt FAST-MOVING

Christa Pike, a 50-year-old death row inmate in Tennessee, survived a botched lethal injection attempt on Wednesday. Despite being administered two doses of pentobarbital, Pike remained alive and was subsequently transported by ambulance to a Nashville-area hospital.

Pike's attorneys filed an emergency motion stating she is currently unconscious, intubated, and on a mechanical ventilator. They allege that the execution team struggled for approximately one hour to establish intravenous access, using at least seven needles. The defense claims that due to improperly placed IV lines or ruptured veins, the highly alkaline pentobarbital seeped into her surrounding tissues rather than entering her bloodstream, causing her arms to become swollen, burned, and blistered.

In response to the incident, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has suspended all state executions for the remainder of 2026 and ordered a comprehensive, third-party independent review of the procedure. While the Tennessee Department of Correction maintains that officials followed established state protocols, the incident has sparked renewed debate regarding the efficacy and legality of lethal injection methods.
