Christantus Uche undergoes knee surgery, ruled out for season

Getafe midfielder Christantus Uche is expected to miss the remainder of the season following successful surgery on a serious right-knee injury. The 23-year-old Nigerian international sustained the injury during a pre-season friendly against AS Monaco on August 6.

Medical examinations revealed multiple tears to the ligaments and meniscus in his right knee. The surgical procedure was performed in Lyon, France, under the supervision of Getafe’s medical staff. Uche has now begun his rehabilitation process with the support of the club.

The injury serves as a significant setback for both club and country. Uche is expected to miss the Super Eagles’ 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and is unlikely to participate in the tournament finals. Last season, the midfielder played 22 matches on loan at Crystal Palace before returning to Getafe.
