Christian Agyare named KNUST Vice-Chancellor, university urges student wellbeing

Professor Christian Agyare was formally installed as the 13th Vice‑Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in a ceremony attended by traditional, religious, political and academic leaders, including the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and Chief of Staff Dr Julius Debrah. His four‑year term begins on 1 August 2026, succeeding Professor Rita Akosua Dickson, and marks a leadership transition for one of Ghana’s premier science and technology institutions.

At the same time, KNUST launched a collective call to address student challenges such as mental‑health concerns, financial pressures, loneliness and career uncertainty. Speaking at the second Directorate of Student Affairs Day, Pro Vice‑Chancellor Professor David Asamoah emphasized the university’s responsibility to foster resilient, ethical graduates, while Director of Student Affairs Professor Marian Asantewah Nkansah highlighted support services and encouraged students to seek help and engage in leadership and mentorship programmes.
