Christian Bermúdez returns to Liga MX with Atlante

Christian ‘Hobbit’ Bermúdez has returned to Liga MX with Atlante, marking his first appearance in the top Mexican division in 3,409 days. The 39-year-old midfielder, whose last top-flight match was in May 2017 for Jaguares de Chiapas, entered as a substitute during a match against Puebla in the Apertura 2026 tournament.

During his appearance, Bermúdez nearly scored with a powerful shot that the goalkeeper narrowly deflected. Despite his long absence, which included a significant recovery from a tibia and fibula fracture sustained in September 2024, the player expressed confidence in his physical condition.

Coach Miguel Herrera has indicated that this may be Bermúdez’s final tournament with Atlante. Bermúdez stated that while he is focused on contributing to the team and training at his maximum capacity, he is mentally prepared for this to potentially be his farewell season.
