He stated he was approximately 150 yards from the McCann family's holiday apartment at the time.

Brueckner further alleged that he attempted a “quick getaway” from the area due to heavy police presence and checkpoints. He claimed that police stopped his van three times during the search for Madeleine but failed to search the vehicle, which he asserted was full of drugs. He maintains his innocence, suggesting that German authorities are attempting to frame him for the disappearance.

In addition to these claims, reports indicate that Brueckner is planning to publish a tell-all memoir in both English and German. He reportedly hopes the book will generate a seven-figure sum to alleviate financial difficulties following his release from prison last year.
