Christian Di Maria wins three gold medals and sets three European youth records
Italian weightlifter Christian Di Maria achieved a triple gold medal victory and set three European youth records during the second day of the European Youth Championships in Pristina.
Competing in the 55 kg category, Di Maria overcame physical discomfort to secure a new European record in the snatch with a lift of 106 kg. He followed this with a 128 kg lift in the clean and jerk, which also established a new European youth record. His combined total of 234 kg earned him the gold medal in the total category.
Moldovan athlete Chihai Nicolae took second place with a total of 226 kg. Another Italian competitor, Salvatore Samuel Cocuzza, finished fifth in the snatch with 91 kg but was unable to complete the clean and jerk portion of the competition.
