Christian Eriksen and VfL Wolfsburg agree to contract termination

Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen and German club VfL Wolfsburg have mutually agreed to terminate his contract, which was originally set to run until June 30, 2027. The 34-year-old player requested the early departure to be closer to his family in Denmark.

The decision follows a medical incident on June 7, 2026, when Eriksen collapsed on the pitch during a friendly match between Denmark and Ukraine. This was the second such incident in his career, following his cardiac arrest at Euro 2021. Since the June incident, Eriksen has been undergoing an individual rehabilitation program in Denmark.

During his one-year tenure with Wolfsburg, Eriksen made 34 appearances across various competitions, recording three goals and ten assists. Wolfsburg's sporting director, Dieter Hecking, stated that the club respected Eriksen's decision and wished him and his family the best, noting the deep impression the player left on the team and fans.
