Christian Gonzalez continues contract negotiations with New England Patriots

New England Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez remains in contract negotiations as the team approaches its regular-season opener against the Seattle Seahawks. While a long-term extension has not yet been finalized, former NFL head coach Mike Smith predicts Gonzalez will eventually become the highest-paid cornerback in league history.

Negotiations are reportedly centered around market benchmarks, such as the $132 million extension recently signed by Seattle Seahawks cornerback Devon Witherspoon. While the Patriots are expected to exceed that total value, the amount of guaranteed money remains a primary obstacle in reaching an agreement.

Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel stated the team must prepare for various levels of player availability during the preseason and upcoming season. Gonzalez has expressed frustration regarding the lack of a deal but maintains that he is currently focused on team practices.
