Christian Horner calls for Formula 1 budget cap revision
Christian Horner has called on Formula 1 to rethink its current budget cap system, arguing that the existing limit does not reflect the actual spending of racing teams. While the current cap is set at $215 million, Horner claims that teams are actually spending between $500 million and $600 million annually.
The current regulations, which began in 2021, exclude several major expenses such as driver contracts, the salaries of the three highest-paid employees, travel costs, and marketing expenditures. Additionally, there is a separate $190 million cap specifically for power units.
Horner, whose former team Red Bull was penalized in 2021 for exceeding the limit by 5%, suggests that the regulations need to be more comprehensive. He noted that while the rules have been clarified and adjusted since their introduction, the discrepancy between the official cap and real-world costs remains significant.
