Christian Horner compares Adrian Newey’s Aston Martin start to Red Bull beginnings
Christian Horner has suggested that Adrian Newey’s current challenges at Aston Martin mirror his early years at Red Bull. Newey, the legendary aerodynamicist, has faced a difficult start at Aston Martin due to chassis deficiencies and the transition to a Honda power unit, alongside delays in the full operation of the team's new wind tunnel.
Horner recalled that when he first recruited Newey to Red Bull in 2006, there was significant resistance from the existing Jaguar-based staff, who believed Newey should adapt to their established methods. Horner countered this by insisting the organization adapt to Newey’s requirements to maximize his expertise.
At Aston Martin, Newey has been working to overcome technical setbacks, including a major revision of the AMR26 to assist driver Fernando Alonso in securing points. Horner believes the current period of adjustment and the need to build a technical structure around Newey's specific needs is a case of history repeating itself.
