Christian McCaffrey sustains thigh injury during 49ers game against Falcons

San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey sustained a thigh injury during a game against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, October 25, 2026. McCaffrey initially scored a 1-yard touchdown on a fourth-down leap to give the 49ers an early lead but was forced to leave the field after catching a 5-yard pass from Brock Purdy.

After being evaluated in an injury tent and spending time in the locker room, McCaffrey returned to the field for the second half. During his return, he recorded two catches for 40 yards and four carries for 29 yards, despite an initial 2-yard loss on his first carry.

While McCaffrey was sidelined, rookie Kaelon Black took over as the lead running back, scoring a 30-yard touchdown. The 49ers entered the matchup with a 6-0 record but faced significant personnel challenges, playing without top receivers Mike Evans and Deebo Samuel Sr. due to separate injuries.
