Christian Nodal loses trademark rights to his stage name in family legal battle

Mexico’s Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI) confirmed that the trademark for the name "Christian Nodal" is owned exclusively by the singer’s father, Jesús Jaime González Terrazas, with the ruling effective from 7 April 2026 and extending until 2036. The decision means the artist no longer controls the commercial use of his own name and related merchandise.

Nodal addressed the dispute publicly during a concert in Querétaro, expressing disappointment that he has no authority over his music or image. He hinted at a rebranding effort, later adopting the moniker “El Forajido” on social media. The legal conflict has created uncertainty for his career and raised broader questions about artist autonomy in the Mexican music industry.
