Christian Parker discusses workload during Dallas Cowboys defensive rebuild

Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Christian Parker has addressed the intense workload required to rebuild the team's defense, noting that his dedication has led to poor sleeping habits. During a press conference, Parker expressed that he is not ‘necessarily proud’ of his lack of sleep, but emphasized that the job must be completed, often leading him to lose track of time while preparing.

A protégé of Vic Fangio, Parker was hired this offseason to improve a defensive unit that ranked among the NFL's worst last season. He has described the defensive installation process as an academic progression, moving from ‘undergraduate work’ in the offseason to a ‘master's program’ during training camp.

Early indicators of the defensive overhaul have appeared in preseason play. In a recent game against the Seattle Seahawks, the Cowboys defense showed significant improvement in discipline, recording zero missed tackles compared to 19 missed tackles in their 2025 preseason opener. Analysts also noted a lack of alignment mistakes during the preseason opener.
