Christian Petzold film 'Phoenix' to air on Arte

The German film 'Phoenix', directed by Christian Petzold, is scheduled for broadcast on the Arte television network. The film is a drama set in post-World War II Germany and is loosely adapted from the 1961 French novel 'Le Retour des cendres' by Hubert Monteilhet.

The story follows Nelly, a Jewish woman who survived a concentration camp but was left disfigured. After undergoing facial reconstruction, she attempts to reunite with her husband while fearing she might be recognized. The film stars Nina Hoss, a frequent collaborator of Petzold, alongside Ronald Zehrfeld.

In addition to 'Phoenix', Arte will also broadcast Petzold’s earlier work, 'Controls d’identité'. Meanwhile, France 3 will air the documentary 'Ce qui reste des amours de nos mères' by Catherine Dubois, which explores themes of mixed heritage and ancestral roots.
