Christian Würtz installed as Bishop of Eichstätt

Christian Würtz has been officially installed as the 83rd Bishop of the Diocese of Eichstätt following a ceremony at St. Willibald's Cathedral. His appointment by the Pope fills the episcopal seat which had been vacant for over a year following the resignation of Gregor Maria Hanke.

During his inaugural sermon, Würtz emphasized that the church's role is to bring visible fruits of the kingdom of God, such as truth, justice, reconciliation, love, and peace. He stated he is not arriving with ready-made solutions but intends to listen to the local community and discover existing gifts within the diocese.

Ingolstadt Mayor Dr. Michael Kern congratulated the new bishop, noting the importance of the church's contribution to social cohesion and the strong connection between the city and the diocese. The ceremony was also attended by representatives from the Litoměřice Diocese in the Czech Republic, a long-standing partner of Eichstätt that has received significant support from the Bavarian diocese since the fall of the communist regime.
